Vande Bharat Express

The Vande Bharat Express, designed by Indian Railways, is a medium-distance, superfast express service launched on February 15, 2019. It’s a reserved, air-conditioned train featuring chair cars, connecting major cities within 800 km or under ten hours.

Built at the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai, these trainsets are self-propelling Electric Multiple Units (EMU), available in configurations of eight or sixteen coaches. Known for its speed, the train achieved semi-high speeds of 183 km/h (114 mph) during trials, with a maximum operational speed capped at 160 km/h (99 mph).

What Makes Vande Bharat Unique?

What truly sets it apart is its superior performance on routes like Rani Kamalapati (Habibganj) to Hazrat Nizamuddin and Tughlakabad to Agra, where it rivals the Gatiman Express as one of the fastest on the Indian rail network. The second version, Vande Bharat 2.0, demonstrates impressive acceleration—reaching 0 to 100 km/h in just 52 seconds—making it faster than some bullet trains during its initial trials.
